The goal

By the end of the course, participants will have acquired the necessary additional competence to operate and manage high voltage installations in hydropower plants. This includes understanding roles, safety barriers, and practical routines for switching operations.

The target group

The course is intended for:

  • Switching Manager (LFK)
  • Switch Operator (Kobler)
  • Safety Manager (LFS)
  • Other personnel involved in the operation, inspection, and maintenance of high voltage installations in the hydropower sector

The topics covered

  • Basic electrical understanding
  • Types of circuit breakers, switchgear, and equipment in hydropower plants
  • Technical safety barriers and risk assessments
  • Electrical hazards specific to hydropower environments
  • Personal protective equipment and clothing
  • Roles and responsibilities: LFS, LFK, and Switch Operator
  • The role and practical importance of the synchronous generator in operations
  • Voltage testing and use of earthing devices
  • Planning and preparing switching orders
  • Practical exercises and execution of switching operations
  • General maintenance and inspection of high voltage installations
  • Communication and teamwork

In addition to this course, participants must receive a local site-specific briefing and instruction on the installations they will be working on. This will be arranged by their employer.

Prerequisites

Prequalification: Participants must have completed FSE high voltage training within the last 12 months.
