The goal

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will have the competence to:

  • Survive at sea in situations where a vessel must be abandoned
  • Minimise the risk of fire, maintain preparedness, and fight and extinguish fires
  • Respond quickly and effectively in the event of an accident
  • Follow emergency procedures
  • Prevent pollution
  • Follow safe working practices
  • Understand orders and communicate effectively with others
  • Contribute to positive human relations and teamwork on board

The target group

According to Section 8 of the Regulations on Qualifications and Certificates for Seafarers, the following personnel may complete and pass the approved safety training course for seafarers on small vessels:

a. Seafarers serving on passenger vessels with a gross tonnage of less than 300 operating in domestic waters (Area 1).

b. Seafarers serving on cargo vessels with a length (L) of less than 24 metres operating in sheltered coastal waters or more restricted trading areas.
