The purpose of this course is that mechanical personnel who will carry out work on non-electric potential ignition sources in the petroleum industry have the necessary knowledge and qualifications to do this in a responsible manner.
The course will provide sufficient theoretical training on Ex areas and Ex/ATEX equipment, including labelling of Ex/ATEX equipment which will reduce the risk of ignition in Ex areas.
The target group for this course is mainly mechanical personnel, for example mechanics, who is located and carry out work in Ex areas in the petroleum industry.
The course is also for other performing personnel (non-electrical workers) who will work with equipment and tools that can constitute a source of ignition. For process operators and other operating personnel, this course will provide sufficient theoretical competence. The course is in accordance with NFEA - EX-KOMP:2021 column E.
In addition, the course will satisfy NFEA - EX-KOMP:2021 column F for responsible persons in mechanical subjects. This course will both cover the general part of Ex safety and awareness and information related to non-electric potential ignition sources that are relevant for mechanical subjects.
To be able to carry out such tasks, it is assumed that one has in-depth knowledge of work and the use of equipment that can affect safety and ignition source control in Ex areas.
The course is also relevant for engineers in mechanical subjects, for example rotating equipment etc.
The Norwegian Maritime Directorate, DSB and Offshore Norway refer to NFEA EX-KOMP:2021 guidelines for training personnel who carry out work in Ex areas. The ex-competence should be updated at least every 5 years.
The course is based on EN ISO 80079-36, EN ISO 80079-37, EN 1127-1, EN IEC 60079-14, EN IEC 60079-17, ATEX directive.
In order for the participant to be considered sufficiently qualified to work independently with mechanical installations in potentially explosive areas, the person concerned must be able to document practical training in addition to this theoretical training. The practical training can, for example, be carried out in your own business.
Final exam - The course ends with a final exam that must be passed in order to get the course approved and a course certificate. We recommend making notes during the course.
This course can be completed on a computer, tablet, or smartphone – whenever and wherever it suits you.
