Qualification requirements
The course is module 1 of 2 course modules that can be completed to satisfy the requirement to document the fitter's competence within the subject Electronic Communication Networks. cf. National Communications Authority's (Nkom) authorization regulations § 6. If work is carried out with fiber-optic installations, additional competence within this must be documented in addition. That is, after completing module 1 and module 2, the participants receive a course certificate that can be included in the company's Internal Control (IK) system to fulfill requirements to document the fitter's competence within the subject Electronic Communication Networks. cf. National Communications Authority (Nkom) Authorization Regulations § 6.
Goal
This course covers the contents of relevant standards, providing participants with the knowledge they need to select correct communication categories, equipment and materials, and to make qualitatively correct installations. The course also covers applicable requirements to documenting and testing communications networks.
Target group
Electrical fitters who work with electronic communications networks covered by the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) authorization regulations. The course modules cover all types of installations including broadband networks, cabling in buildings and special applications on vessels and offshore.
Subjects covered in the course
- Legislation and regulations issued by the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom)
- Relevant standards - NEK 700
- Understanding systems, terminology, simple planning of cabling systems based on paired cables, coaxial cables, fibre-optic cables and wireless networks
- Connecting and installing shared cabling systems based on paired cables
- Planning and designing switching cabinets in accordance with NEK 700
- Simple planning and installation of coaxial and radio-based communication systems
- Electrical safety in telecommunications networks
- Using cable monitoring equipment to test and certify installations in accordance with NEK 700
The course consists of both theoretical and practical elements and concludes with a written exam.
This course is one of two course modules that satisfy the requirements for documenting the holder’s competence in the field of electronic communications network, cf. § 6 of the Regulations on authorization for installation contractors performing installation and maintenance of electronic communications networks, issued by the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom).
Working with fibre-optic installations requires documentation of additional competence in this field. This is covered in Module 2 – Fibre-optic installations. Successful completion of both modules 1 and 2 entitles the candidate to a course certificate. This can be included in the company’s Internal Control System as part of documentation of the electrical fitter’s competence in the field of Electronic Communications Networks, cf. § 6 of the Regulations on authorization for installation contractors performing installation and maintenance of electronic communications networks, issued by the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom).
