Qualification requirements

The course is 1 of 2 course modules that can be completed to satisfy the requirement to document the fitter's competence within the subject Electronic Communication Networks. cf. National Communications Authority's (Nkom) authorization regulations § 6.

In order to be able to document sufficient competence within EKOM networks, module 1 [EKOM - Calibration Systems and Communication Networks] (https://en.trainor.no/app/product/classroom/Ds3A9p/ekom--calibration-systems-and-communication-networks) can be completed in addition.

That is, after completing module 1 and module 2, the participants receive a course certificate that can be included in the company's Internal Control (IK) system to fulfill requirements to document the fitter's competence within the subject Electronic Communication Networks. cf. National Communications Authority's (Nkom) authorization regulations § 6.

Goal

Course participants learn about planning, installing and testing all types of fibre-optic installations. Successful completion of the final exam entitles the candidate to a course certificate. This can be included in the company’s Internal Control System to document the electrical fitter’s competence in the field of Electronic Communications Networks, cf. § 6 of the Regulations on authorization for installation contractors performing installation and maintenance of electronic communications networks, issued by the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom).

Target group

Electrical fitters who work with electronic communications networks covered by the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) authorization regulations. The course modules cover all types of installations including broadband networks, cabling in buildings and special applications on vessels and offshore.

Subjects covered in the course

  • Basic system understanding and usage
  • Fibre-optic calculations and budgets
  • Connecting and installing fibre-optic installations, termination and welded joints
  • Testing with an optical fibre power metre in accordance with NEK 700 series
  • Understanding and using an OTDR for documentation of broadband networks
  • Understanding and developing documentation in accordance with NEK 700 series
  • Planning and installing air-blown fibre-optic cabling for broadband installations
  • Passive fibre-optic networks – PON Troubleshooting, operation and maintenance of fiber networks, cabinets and patching.

The course consists of both theoretical and practical elements and concludes with a written exam. This course is one of two course modules satisfying the requirements for documenting competence in the field of electronic communications networks, cf. § 6 of the Regulations on authorization for installation contractors performing installation and maintenance of electronic communications networks, issued by the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom).

To gain adequate competence in EKOM networks, Module 1 EKOM – NEK 700: Cabling systems and communications networks, may be taken in addition.

Successful completion of both modules 1 and 2 entitles the candidate to a course certificate. This can be included in the company’s Internal Control System as part of documentation of the electrical fitter’s competence in the field of Electronic Communications Networks, cf. § 6 of the Regulations on authorization for installation contractors performing installation and maintenance of electronic communications networks, issued by the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom).
