Contact usThe course runs for 37.5 hours and provides a fundamental introduction to the various types of valves used in the process and offshore industries. The course covers the design and operation of different valve types, introduces safe valve operation, potential sources of leakage, and maintenance of the most commonly used valves. The course is valid for 5 years. A refresher course can be taken within 6 months after the 5-year validity period. Personnel who do not complete the refresher course within 6 months after the 5-year period must retake the full course.

Technical Information
A Valve Technology Handbook and exercise workbook will be provided during the course. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) and workwear are available.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:
The valve course is intended for: operations personnel, maintenance personnel, engineers, mechanical technicians, industrial pipefitters, process technicians, instrument and automation technicians, project personnel, supervisors and managers responsible for the selection, sales, handling, maintenance, and operation of valves within the oil and gas industry.
The course combines theoretical instruction with practical exercises covering the following topics:
Approximately half of the course duration is devoted to practical exercises carried out in small groups under instructor supervision in the valve laboratory.
The course concludes with a written examination and practical group assignments that document the competence achieved.
The course covers the competency requirements for personnel who will operate and perform maintenance on valves in accordance with Offshore Norway guideline 143, revised in summer 2026.
The training is adapted to the equipment used and complies with the requirements of the Norwegian Regulations concerning the Performance of Work, Sections 10-1 and 10-2, including associated guidance notes.
The course certificate is valid for five (5) years. A refresher course may be completed within six months after the five-year validity period has expired. Personnel who do not complete a refresher course within six months after the expiry date must attend the full course again.

No prior knowledge or experience is required.
