Who should use the NEK 600 standard?

NEK 600 defines the requirements for electrical installations in road traffic systems. The standard should therefore be applied by road owners, designers, installers, and suppliers of equipment for road infrastructure. By referencing the standard in tender invitations, the process becomes transparent, and the installation will meet the required quality standards.

A Declaration of Conformity with this standard means that the designer and/or contractor confirms that the installation has been designed and/or executed in accordance with the normative text in NEK 600:2025. The standard will form part of a private contractual agreement between the supplier and the client.

The standard is the primary reference in Road Standard N601 – Safety Requirements for Electrical Installations in and along Public Roads. A Declaration of Conformity with NEK 600 will therefore be an essential element in documenting compliance with regulatory requirements.

After completing the course, participants will be able to apply NEK 600 in their daily work related to the installation and maintenance of electrical installations.

References

The authorities (DSB) require that competence is documented in the company’s internal control system. This is described in the Regulation on Electrical Enterprises and Qualification Requirements for Work Related to Electrical Installations and Electrical Equipment (FEK).

FEK stipulates that all personnel must stay up to date with professional developments. This includes knowledge of national regulations and standards necessary for the tasks they perform.

Prerequisites

NEK 600:2025 Electrical Installations in Road Traffic Systems specifies requirements for quality, functionality, and electrical safety during procurement, design, installation, verification, and documentation, as well as operation and maintenance of electrical installations within the road sector.

It is advantageous for course participants to be familiar with NEK 400, as NEK 600 introduces additional requirements beyond those defined in NEK 400.

NEK 600:2025 was released in October 2025 and replaces NEK 600:2021.
